Benefits
Our steam distilled Peppermint Essential Oil is fresh, minty, and invigorating – perfect for a punch of high-energy and head-clearing focus. When diffused, this oil creates a stimulating atmosphere for daily tasks, immediately adding vitality and energy to any environment.
Known for its cooling properties when applied topically or inhaled, Peppermint essential oil is best harvested on sunny days just as it starts blooming, for this is when the menthol is at its peak.
Peppermint Essential Oil is highly valued even today for its wide range of its therapeutic benefits, medicinal applications, culinary uses, and minty and energizing aroma. An indispensable ingredient in aromatherapy, Peppermint Essential Oil helps to soothe the nerves, promote tranquility, uplift mood, and fight fatigue and exhaustion.
Aromatherapy:
One of the top benefits of Peppermint Essential oil is definitely its mood-boosting and invigorating abilities. Add 8 to 10 drops in a diffuser or burner for the ultimate aromatherapy session.
No more headaches:
Peppermint Essential Oil is ideal for use as a natural remedy for alleviating headaches. By adding a few drops to your forehead, this oil can promote circulation, relax any muscle tension you may be experiencing and even cause a numbing effect to soothe the pain (thanks to its cool minty feel). Make sure to dilute it when applying it topically with a carrier oil of your choice.
No more pain:
If you are wondering if peppermint oil is good for pain, the answer is a resounding “yes!” Peppermint essential oil is a very effective natural painkiller and muscle relaxant. It is known to reduce muscle soreness, relieve joint pain, soothe tired muscles, relieve sprain, and reduce back pain. To reap those benefits, simply dilute some Peppermint Essential oil in any carrier oil you like and massage the affected area.
Breathe Easy:
Ideal for clearing up your airways and supporting your lungs, peppermint essential oil helps you clear any nasal congestion. Its anti-microbial properties make it perfect for fighting respiratory tract infections too. You can also use it to reduce sinusitis.
Allergies:
Did you know? Peppermint oil is highly effective at relaxing muscles in your nasal passages and helping clear out the muck and pollen from your respiratory tract during allergy season. It’s considered one of the best essential oils for allergies because of its expectorant, anti-inflammatory and invigorating properties.
A lab study published in the European Journal of Medical Research found that peppermint compounds displayed potential therapeutic efficacy for the treatment of chronic inflammatory disorders, such as allergic rhinitis, colitis and bronchial asthma.
Digestion & bloating:
Peppermint Essential Oil is a natural remedy for promoting good digestion and enhancing appetite. It is also known to provide relief bloating, stomach pain, and gas.
Nausea:
To get rid of nausea, simply inhale peppermint oil directly from the bottle, add one drop to a glass of distilled water or rub one to two drops behind your ears.
Oral health:
It’s no coincidence that most toothpastes are mint flavored. Tried and true for well over 1,000 years, the peppermint plant has been used to naturally freshen breath. This is probably due to the way Peppermint Essential oil kills bacteria and fungus that can lead to cavities or infection.

For a non-toxic alternative to unhealthy energy drinks, take a few whiffs of peppermint essential oil. It helps boost your energy levels and increase your focus. It increases alertness and drives away the feelings of exhaustion and weariness.

Know more
History:
Peppermint, or Mentha piperita, was first cultivated for medical use in eighteenth-century England. However, many believe that its provenance can be traced as far back as Ancient Egyptian times.
To make peppermint oil, fresh parts of the flowering plant are distilled with steam which extracts the essential oils. However, this is a complex process to master. The herb requires specific ecological conditions for optimum yield, drastically reducing the regions for cultivation.
Holy monks in the Middle Ages used peppermint to clean their teeth. With its strong menthol smell, they would also use it to repel rodents away from their cheese storerooms. By the mid-1700s, peppermint became listed as a medicinal agent for treating many kinds of conditions, from diseases to migraines.
One of the most well-known uses for peppermint historically has been for stomach issues. Ancient Egyptians used peppermint as a treatment for indigestion. In addition to this, Ancient Greeks believed mint could treat hiccups, and Romans used it as a stomach soother.
Fun Facts About Peppermint Essential Oil:
- Although peppermint-flavored, candy canes don’t contain real peppermint only artificial flavor.
- Peppermint essential oil is the oldest home-remedy for digestion problems.
- Mint leaves are full of vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C and B2, calcium, copper and magnesium.
- Peppermint essential oil is the 2nd most popular after Lavender essential oil.
Studies:
For IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)
Some of the most extensive research into the benefits of peppermint oil has focused on IBS. A 2019 review of 12 trials examined the efficacy of peppermint oil capsules in treating IBS when compared with a placebo. Researchers found that treatment with peppermint oil improved abdominal pain and other symptoms of IBS.
For Nausea:
Nausea can have many causes, and it often occurs after an operation. One study assessed the effect of inhaled peppermint oil on postoperative nausea. The researchers found that patients rated their level of nausea as lower after inhaling peppermint oil.

Ultrasonic diffusers effectively enhance the air of any environment. We recommend that:

- Air Flow: whenever you are using or diffusing essential oils, offer fresh air with an open window or door
Pregnancy:
You can use essential oils during pregnancy, but please consult your health care practitioner before use.
Pets:
Using essential oils on pets:
The ability to tolerate essential oils is dependent on many factors, including plant species, product, dose, and route of application. Essential oil use cases show the most significant risk of toxicity is from direct skin application on your pet’s skin – these same cases also share that a large volume was applied directly and neat (pure without a carrier) to the pet’s skin. Knowing that there is a risk in using these oils to your pet’s fur or skin, we strongly recommend consultation with your veterinarian or animal care specialist prior to applying or exposure to any of our products.
If you’ve chosen to use essential oils around your pet, we first recommend taking note of your pets behavior, contacting your vet with any concerns, and the below list of Rūt products that we feel are the most pet-friendly:
Single note essential oils:
- Chamomile
- Frankincense
- Clary Sage
- Geranium
- Rosemary
Should you choose to use your ultrasonic diffuser in the presence of your pet, we recommend:
- Using only small amounts of essential oils. 1-5 drops are our recommendation
- Ensure the space is well ventilated with a window open slightly for fresh air
- Always keep a door open so that the animal can enter and exit the room easily
- Take note of how your pet responds at all times and if you notice your pet resisting an aroma, discontinue use and move them to a well-ventilated space
- Be particularly mindful of pets that are in cages or enclosed spaces (including birds and small rodents) as they cannot leave the room if they become uncomfortable
