With its versatility, affordability and wonderfully uplifting aroma, Sweet Orange Essential Oil is one of the most popular of essential oils within aromatherapy. The aroma of Sweet Orange Oil is cheerful and helps to improve the aroma of a stale-smelling or smoky room. Sweet Orange Essential Oil has become a popular ingredient within a wide assortment of natural household cleaning products. Unlike most essential oils that are extracted using steam distillation, most citrus oils including Sweet Orange Oil are extracted by cold pressing the rinds of the orange.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil is often used when looking to reduce minor pain and inflammation as well as reduce the presence of unwanted bacteria. Because of its excellent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties, Sweet Orange Sweet Oil is an overall excellent skin tonic and an indispensable ingredient in skin care products intended for oily skin. Its clarifying properties can be beneficial for diminishing acne. In homecare, Sweet Orange Oil can also work as a secret weapon in the kitchen against stubborn grease stains.

One of the top benefits of Sweet Orange Essential Oil is definitely its energizing abilities. Add 8 to 10 drops in a diffuser or burner for the ultimate morning energy boost. The rejuvenating citrus scent of Sweet Orange Essential Oil is versatile and blends well with other citrus essential oils and oils in the mint, floral, wood, herbaceous and spice families

Goodbye stress & anxiety:

Thanks to its zesty, fresh aroma – Sweet Orange essential oil is great for reducing anxiety and depression. You may have noticed that most citrus-scented products, including home cleaning items, have a more relaxing and uplifting effect on your overall mood.

Pain Relief:

Sweet Orange Oil is sometimes used in aromatherapy as a natural analgesic. The anti-stress and antidepressant effects of this oil may have something to do with how it helps our bodies interpret our pain without panicking.

Clear & Healthy Skin:

Did you know? Sweet Orange oil is one of several essential oils that can kill harmful bacteria that can grow on your skin. This makes a good choice for topically cleaning small wounds. It also has protective properties, such as antioxidants, that may brighten and preserve your skin tone. However, like most citrus oils, it can cause skin sensitivity when in the sun. Make sure to apply sunscreen or avoid sun exposure.

Cold & Flu:

If you’re suffering from a sore throat, or the common cold, sweet orange essential oil can be used as a great home remedy. You can diffuse it in the room to help you breathe a bit more easily and help relax your mind as well as the muscles in your throat. Its antimicrobial properties can also kill the bacteria and germs found in the air.

Acne of the past:

Sweet Orange Oil is a great choice when it comes to choosing an oil that regulates sebum production and fighting acne-causing bacteria. It also helps heal the skin barrier faster and keeps it hydrated and protected, all the while reducing redness and any swelling that may be present.

Keep aging at bay:

When we think Orange, we think Vitamin C! And Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants known for cosmetic use. We all know that anti-oxidants are essential to keeping our skin youthful. Luckily, Sweet Orange Essential oil is packed with them! Incorporate those beautiful anti-oxidants in your skincare routine by adding a few drops of Sweet Orange Essential Oil to your daily moisturizer or face oil

Cuts & wounds:

Sweet Orange Essential Oil should be a staple in your first-aid kit. Since it has anti-bacterial and healing properties, it can help speed up wounds healing, along with any cuts or even insect bites. It can also reduce the appearance of scarring since it stimulates the regeneration of skin cells.

Ditch the chemicals:

Sweet Orange Essential oil’s anti-septic properties make it an ideal choice for those looking to switch from harmful household chemicals to more natural alternatives. It is also perfect for breaking down stubborn grease thanks to the natural acids found in it. You can use it to clean surfaces around the house or spray it to kill any bacteria in the air.

According to historical sources: In 1493, Christopher Columbus carried Orange seeds during his expedition to the Americas and eventually they reached Haiti and the Caribbean; in the 16th century, Portuguese explorers introduced Orange trees to the West; in 1513, Ponce de Leon, the Spanish explorer, introduced Oranges to Florida; in 1450, Italian traders introduced Orange trees to the Mediterranean region; in 800 AD, Oranges were introduced to eastern Africa and the Middle East by Arab traders and were then distributed through the trade routes. In the 15th century, Portuguese travelers introduced the Sweet Oranges they brought back from China to the woodland areas of West Africa and to Europe. In the 16th century, Sweet Oranges were introduced in England. It is believed that Europeans valued Citrus fruits mainly for their medicinal benefits, but the Orange was quickly adopted as a fruit. Eventually, it came to be cultivated by the wealthy, who grew their own trees in private “orangeries.” The Orange has come to be known as the oldest and the most commonly grown tree fruit in the world.

For thousands of years, Orange Oil’s ability to naturally enhance immunity and reduce several symptoms of numerous ailments have lent it to traditional medicinal applications for the treatment of acne, chronic stress, and other health concerns. The folk remedies of the Mediterranean region as well as the regions of the Middle East, India, and China used Orange Oil to relieve colds, coughs, chronic fatigue, depression, flu, indigestion, low libido, odors, poor circulation, skin infections, and spasms. In China, Oranges are believed to symbolize good fortune and thus they continue to be a significant feature of the traditional medicinal practices.

Fun Facts About Sweet Orange:

  • Nearly 85% of all oranges grown are used to make frozen concentrated orange juice, which was first introduced in 1940. Most of the peels from the juiced oranges are then used to make orange essential oil.
  • Orange trees produce orange blossoms, which have many uses. In Spain, fallen blossoms are used to make herbal tea. They can also be used to make a citrus-scented version of rosewater, called orange blossom water. In some Middle Eastern countries, the scented water is often added to disguise the taste of hard water. In the United States, the blossom water is used to make scones and marshmallows. It is also a common ingredient in French cuisine. The blossoms are also popular in the perfume industry and are the state flower of Florida.
  • Oranges were known as the fruits of the Gods. It is believed that oranges were the “golden apples” that are mentioned in the story of Hercules and Titan Atlas, where Hercules tricked Atlas into holding up the world again so that Hercules could take the golden apples that Atlas had picked.

Using essential oils on pets:

The ability to tolerate essential oils is dependent on many factors, including plant species, product, dose, and route of application. Essential oil use cases show the most significant risk of toxicity is from direct skin application on your pet’s skin – these same cases also share that a large volume was applied directly and neat (pure without a carrier) to the pet’s skin. Knowing that there is a risk in using these oils to your pet’s fur or skin, we strongly recommend consultation with your veterinarian or animal care specialist prior to applying or exposure to any of our products.

If you’ve chosen to use essential oils around your pet, we first recommend taking note of your pets behavior, contacting your vet with any concerns, and the below list of Rūt products that we feel are the most pet-friendly:

Single note essential oils:

  • Chamomile
  • Frankincense
  • Clary Sage
  • Geranium
  • Rosemary

Should you choose to use your ultrasonic diffuser in the presence of your pet, we recommend:

  • Using only small amounts of essential oils. 1-5 drops are our recommendation
  • Ensure the space is well ventilated with a window open slightly for fresh air
  • Always keep a door open so that the animal can enter and exit the room easily
  • Take note of how your pet responds at all times and if you notice your pet resisting an aroma, discontinue use and move them to a well-ventilated space
  • Be particularly mindful of pets that are in cages or enclosed spaces (including birds and small rodents) as they cannot leave the room if they become uncomfortable
