Aroma: Neroli is one of the freshest of the orange blossom notes. It is most often associated with citrus fragrances and eaux de colognes. It is common to find it in the top notes of fresh floral scents. It acts as a counterpoint to the absolute. Neroli is fresh, floral, sparkling and has a lavender and green facet. It also brings a lot of tenderness to a composition as it echoes many perfumed products or eaux de toilette for babies and children.
It blends well with: chamomile, clary sage, frankincense, geranium, ginger, grapefruit, jasmine, juniper berry, lavender, lemon, mandarin, myrrh, sweet orange, rose, sandalwood, and ylang ylang.

Neroli is an essential oil that is sourced from the flowers on a bitter orange tree most commonly grown in Africa. We source our neroli from an organic farm in Morocco where it is steam-distilled. According to statistics from African botanists, it takes 1,000 blossoms to product 1 pound of neroli.
Originating in Tunisia and primarily cultivated across North Africa and France, neroli is widely believed to have been named during the 16th century for Princess Anne Maria de La Tremoille of Nerola, Italy, who fell in love with the striking fragrance and introduced it to her homeland. The oil itself has been used since the days of the ancient Egyptians when it was recognized for its health, wellbeing and spiritual benefits.
Dating back as far as the 17th century, Neroli Essential Oil has been adored by Italian aristocrats. The Duchess of Bracciano was famed for her use of the Bitter Orange Essential Oil, infusing her gloves with its aroma and adding a few drops to her bath – she loved it so much that she was even hailed as ‘Princess Nerola’.
Neroli Essential Oil is often used as a remedy for:
Several small studies, including one reported in the Pakistan Journal of Biological Sciences, indicate that neroli oil has antimicrobial, antifungal, and antioxidant properties. This may make it helpful for reducing acne breakouts and skin irritation.
An animal study found that neroli oil has biologically active components which might make it beneficial for reducing seizures and convulsions. These components are:
A small study of postmenopausal women found that inhaled neroli oil was beneficial for relieving several symptoms associated with menopause, such as high blood pressure, low libido, and elevated stress.

Using essential oils on pets:
The ability to tolerate essential oils is dependent on many factors, including plant species, product, dose, and route of application. Essential oil use cases show the most significant risk of toxicity is from direct skin application on your pet’s skin – these same cases also share that a large volume was applied directly and neat (pure without a carrier) to the pet’s skin. Knowing that there is a risk in using these oils to your pet’s fur or skin, we strongly recommend consultation with your veterinarian or animal care specialist prior to applying or exposure to any of our products.
If you’ve chosen to use essential oils around your pet, we first recommend taking note of your pets behavior, contacting your vet with any concerns, and the below list of Rūt products that we feel are the most pet-friendly:
